Welcome to Jeff Maurice for Williamson County Attorney!
Williamson County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Texas, with a population quickly approaching half a million people. As we are all becoming increasingly aware, Williamson County government has likewise grown to become big business, with sophisticated contracts, long-ranging debt arrangements, and expanding liabilities reaching into the hundreds of millions of dollars annually, and with total tax-supported debt currently sitting at $1.24 billion (the third highest in the state). Unfortunately, the county's contractual and business issues have been sorely neglected.
It is time for the county attorney's office to catch up. It is time, in the county attorney's office, for a leader who can manage not just the prosecution of criminal cases, but can also add value to the growing contractual and business issues that confront Williamson County and that ultimately affect the pocketbooks of county taxpayers. My name is Jeff Maurice and that is why I am running for Williamson County Attorney.
We must do a much better job of negotiating, administering and enforcing the county’s contracts and business arrangements, while making Williamson County a good and fair place to do business. As an attorney with almost 25 years of experience and a former Dell Senior Corporate Counsel who has been active in county affairs for the past several years, I am ready for the job. I believe that my proven track record as Dell's lead attorney in developing Dell's Round Rock and Parmer Lane campuses, and my experience in negotiating and administering contracts amounting to billions of dollars, are achievements that can't be matched by any other candidate in the race.
While one of my opponents may try to argue that misdemeanor public safety issues are so pressing in our county today that the county attorney’s office should only be entrusted to a prosecutor, I would first point out that there is absolutely no requirement that the county attorney be a prosecutor. Additionally, we actually live in one of the safest counties in the state. That is due not to the actions of any one person, or even prosecutor, but rather to the good work and dedication of a multitude of people, including those in the sheriff’s department, the constables’ offices, city police departments, EMS, fire departments, and the courts, as well as the staff and employees of the county attorney’s office. Although we must continue to diligently focus on those safety issues, and not let our guard down, we must also begin to provide the broader array of legal support that our big county business deserves.
